The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) has brought the results of its training experience in offshore renewable hydrogen to the academic sphere. The institution recently took part in the “Gran Café” meeting, organized by the Centro de Formación Permanente de la Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), where it presented the development and implementation of the five Training Programs promoted under the H2VERDE project.
The event, held last week, was aimed at directors and coordinators of ULPGC-certified degrees, master’s programs, and university expert diplomas. During the session, the H2VERDE training programs were discussed, all of which are certified by ULPGC thanks to a collaboration agreement between both institutions. The programs focus on key areas such as the generation, integration, and application of renewable hydrogen in marine environments.
Since March, more than one hundred people have participated in the training activities, which are scheduled to conclude in July. Notably, there has been gender parity among participants, with the majority falling within the 30 to 54 age range—highlighting the interest of working professionals in these emerging topics.
In addition to sharing the achievements of this first edition of the training programs, PLOCAN expressed its intention to continue the initiative, with the support of ULPGC’s Vicerrectorado de Formación Permanente y Empleabilidad. The institution emphasized the importance of maintaining and expanding these renewable hydrogen courses, thereby contributing to workforce development and advancing the energy transition in the Canary Islands.
Energía e Hidrógeno Renovable, H2VERDE, is funded through a direct grant from the Government of the Canary Islands to PLOCAN, under Investment 1 of Component 17 of the Spanish Government’s Plan de Recuperación, Transformación y Resiliencia (PRTR), financed with Next Generation EU funds, through the Mecanismo de Recuperación y Resiliencia (MRR).
