The EDUROVs Marine Robotics Initiative at the National Museum of Science and Technology

The National Museum of Science and Technology (MUNCYT) in Alcobendas will host an exhibition related to the EDUROVs Initiative and Marine Robotics workshops during August and September.

Young people aged 12 years and over will be able to participate in these Marine Robotics workshops that last one hour and a half, from August 2 to September 29, 2019, Tuesday to Friday from 11:30 to 13:00 hours, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 12:30 to 14:00 hours. The workshop participants, divided into groups of 6 and 8, will be helped by responsibles for dissemination during the construction of the ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) with specific material provided by PLOCAN, in order to operate it in a swimming pool installed at the Museum. These workshops could be requested at the Museum ticket office until full capacity.

This free activity will take place in the temporary exhibition area on floor 0, next to an exposition that shows ROV prototypes built by students from high schools of the Canary Islands, which were chosen because of their originality and functionality. This exhibition will be available to all visitors to the Museum during the opening hours from Tuesday to Sunday. The exhibition is completed with information panels and audiovisual resources related to this activity.

The EDUROVs Marine Robotics Initiative, led by the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) proposes the construction of programmable marine robots in several areas for educational purposes, from low cost tools, with free hardware and software, with the aim of stimulating young people’s vocations towards technical disciplines in order to awaken motivation and interest in science and technology and in the knowledge of the ocean.
