Schoolchildren become ocean guardians at the Elder Museum

The Elder Museum in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria was transformed into a marine restoration scenario during Macaronight 2024, where the BlueMissionAA project created a fun and educational environment for young learners.

School visits scheduled for that day as part of Macaronight, organized by Big Van Ciencia, were immersed in a world of marine discoveries thanks to activities organized by the BlueMissionAA team. Through interactive puzzles, children reconstructed marine ecosystems, learning about the rich biodiversity of our oceans. A colorful poster became a canvas for them to express their vision of the sea and its conservation.

“Seeing the children so enthusiastic about learning marine restoration is inspiring,” said Iván sa Vieria, a team member from SPI, the Portuguese Society for Innovation, a participating entity along with PLOCAN in the BlueMissionAA project. “They are absorbing knowledge that will help them become future defenders of our oceans”.

The activities not only entertained but also educated about the crucial importance of restoring and protecting our aquatic ecosystems. Children discovered how small actions can have a big impact on the health of our seas.

This day of science and fun, organized by PLOCAN and facilitated by SPI, Portuguese Society for Innovation, was made possible thanks to the collaboration of Big Van Ciencia and the Elder Museum, which opened its doors to host this event as part of Macaronight 2024. The BlueMissionAA project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe program, continues its mission to bring marine science closer to the public and foster a new generation of ocean guardians.
