The Canary Islands Oceanic Platform (PLOCAN) hosted a delegation from the Ocean Technology Campus (OTC) in Rostock, Germany, in a meeting that highlights PLOCAN’s recognition as a driving force for innovation and collaboration in marine technology.
Located in the historic port of Rostock, the OTC is an international benchmark in the development of advanced technologies for the sustainable use of oceans. This initiative integrates excellence in research, cutting-edge engineering, and information technology, fostering close cooperation between academic, applied, and business-oriented research.
During their visit, the OTC delegation had the opportunity to learn about PLOCAN’s unique capabilities, such as its test site and offshore platform, renowned for their role in validating and testing advanced marine technologies. These facilities, combined with PLOCAN’s expertise in international projects, have established it as a strategic hub within Europe’s marine research network.
In addition to technical activities, PLOCAN acted as a liaison between local organizations, facilitating meetings for the delegation with the Canary Islands Maritime Cluster and the Spanish Bank of Algae. These engagements enabled OTC representatives to familiarize themselves with the innovation ecosystem surrounding the Canary coastal facilities and the test site, exploring opportunities for collaboration with key players in the region’s blue economy.
The meeting focused on identifying shared areas of interest, such as the design of emerging technologies, the development of autonomous platforms, and the creation of sustainable solutions to enhance the blue economy. Discussions also included the potential to generate new services and projects aimed at strengthening their joint impact in the field of marine research.
The OTC visit reinforces PLOCAN’s position as a key player in the international ocean innovation ecosystem, consolidating its role as a catalyst for synergies and a reference point for collaboration among academic, technological, and business institutions. Both entities agreed to continue working together to develop initiatives that promote sustainability and advance ocean knowledge.
