PLOCAN announces the 15th Glider School edition

The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) convenes the 15th edition of the Glider School, an international reference training forum in ocean-glider technology, to be held from October 20th to 24th in Telde, Gran Canaria. The didactic contents of the Glider School are addressed to cover hardware and software aspects through specific theoretical and practical sessions in classroom, laboratory and open-waters using real uw-gliders and USV units of different commercial technologies (AutoNaut, Sailbuoy, Slocum, Seaglider and Seaexplorer), focusing on their technical and operational capabilities, as well as particular features of each of them.

This highly specialized training week, which enables a first learning approach on the management and operation of the main commercial ocean-glider technologies, is aimed at professionals and higher-education students worldwide linked to a large spectrum of scientific-technical ocean-sciences disciplines such engineering, marine and maritime services, academia, government, among others. So far, a total of 221 students from 36 countries representing the five continents have been trained through Glider School.

The Glider School has the support and commitment, as teaching staff, from the world’s leading ocean-glider and ocean-sensor manufacturers, telemetry providers and other subsystem components that integrates these cutting-edge uncrewed ocean-observing, as well as expert operators and end-users in the fields ocean research and sectors linked to the Blue Economy.
