The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands participated in the Canary Islands Science and Innovation Weeks 2024showing how its work contributes to the knowledge of the marine environment and the development ofsustainable solutions for a cleaner energy future.
As part of this scientific celebration, PLOCAN opened its facilities to more than 200 students from 7 schools. Duringthe event, the students not only visited PLOCAN’s onshore facilities, but also actively participated in a groupdynamic and a workshop on renewable energies.
These activities were part of the EDUROVs and Renewable Energy and Hydrogen projects, initiatives designed to encourage hands-on learning and bring key concepts of energy sustainability closer to the public. With these activities, PLOCAN seeks not only to inform, but also to inspire new generations, awakening their interest in science and technology.
EDUROVs aims to build robots from low-cost materials, with free software and hardware, to bring students closer to science and technology in a practical way and stimulate professional vocations in the field of technology, and is funded by the Department of Environment, Climate, Energy and Knowledge of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and PLOCAN.
The Renewable Energy and Hydrogen project is a project subsidised by the Government of the Canary Islands and financed under component 17 of the Spanish Government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR),financed with ‘Next Generation EU’ funds, through the so-called Recovery and Resilience Mechanism (RRM).
The Science and Innovation Weeks in the Canary Islands are promoted by the Regional Ministry of Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture of the Canary Islands Government through the Canary Islands Agency for Research, Innovation and the Information Society (ACIISI).
