The Canary Islands Regional Minister for Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Land Planning, José Antonio Valbuena, and the Balearic Islands Regional Minister for Energy Transition, Productive Sectors and Democratic Memory, Juan Pedro Yllanes, visited the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands offshore infrastructure located in the test site of this unique scientific and technical infrastructure.
The director of PLOCAN, José Joaquín Hernández Brito, explained the features of the Platform to the ministers and departmental officials of the two governments. The first offshore wind turbine anchored to the seabed and the PivotBuoy X1Wind floating wind turbine are currently being tested there, among other activities linked to technological research projects on marine renewable energies.
During their visit to the facilities of the Canary Islands Oceanic Platform, the ministers discussed various projects of interest that could be replicated in the Balearic Islands.
Valbuena and Yllanes announced prior to the visit to the Platform that they will promote joint proposals for action as island regions during the next United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27) and the National Environment Congress (CONAMA) to be held in November.
