The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) hosted today a meeting between members of this institution and representatives from Space Azores and PROEXCA. The visitors explored PLOCAN’s facilities, learning about its services and current and future projects, with special emphasis on potential collaborations in space-related areas.

During the visit, Space Azores experts Duarte Cota and André Craveiro showed great interest in PLOCAN’s capabilities for ocean research and technological development. They explored potential synergies between marine research and space applications with PLOCAN’s staff, highlighting the importance of PLOCAN as an ideal environment for testing technologies adaptable to the aerospace sector.

Space Azores is a strategic initiative of the Azores Government in collaboration with the Portuguese Space Agency. Its aim is to position the Azores as an Atlantic hub for space-related activities, fostering economic growth, developing skills and competencies, and increasing the region’s visibility in the space sector. This meeting at PLOCAN reflects Space Azores’ interest in exploring international collaborations and leveraging synergies between ocean and space research.
