UNDIGEN: Functionality of Undimotriz Power Generation Systems

The technology company Wedge Global, S.L. has developed an electrical “Power Take-off System (PTO)” for direct generation of energy from sea waves that is potentially suitable for different types of Wave Energy Converters – WEC’s (Vertical and Pendulum Point Absorbers and Oscillating Water Column, among others).

This PTO is the heart of the WEC, because in addition to performing the energy conversion, it has the autonomous ability to optimise the operation of the entire WEC. This direct generation electrical solution (key component) has been satisfactorily tested and validated at laboratory level (Cedex-Ciemat), making it essential to carry out a marine test of this innovative electrical solution as the next natural step in the technological development aimed at its projected industrial purpose in the future commercial phase.

The aim of the project is to develop a basic sensor to serve as a test bench for the PTO in order to carry out an effective marine functionality test that confirms the good laboratory results and, in turn, allows different control strategies to be analysed in real application.
