SIRENA 2: Sistema Integral Remoto con nuevas herramientas para la Monitorización, Detección y Predicción de Riesgos de Eventos Marinos Potencialmente Nocivos de Origen Natural o Antrópico en Áreas Off-Shore Destinadas a la Acuicultura
SIRENA 2 extends and enhances the original SIRENA system to monitor and predict potentially harmful marine events affecting offshore aquaculture areas. It combines advanced satellite remote sensing (Sentinel-1/2/3) and AI-based detection of blooms, spills and turbidity with in situ observations using campaigns, buoys and autonomous vehicles, feeding high-resolution hydrodynamic models that generate operational risk alerts up to 60 hours ahead.
This project represents a natural continuation of the SIRENA project, incorporating technological improvements, expanded geographical coverage and greater process automation. SIRENA 2 aims to strengthen and expand the capabilities for monitoring and predicting potentially harmful marine events (natural or anthropogenic) in offshore aquaculture areas, through a comprehensive approach based on three pillars:
- Advanced remote sensing, with Sentinel-1/2/3 images and artificial intelligence models for the automated detection of blooms, spills and turbidity, generating early warnings.
- Enhanced in situ observation, through oceanographic campaigns and autonomous surface vehicles, buoys and sensors, improving the validation and assimilation of data in numerical models.
- Automated operational response, integrating satellite and in situ data into high-resolution hydrodynamic models to project risks 60 hours in advance and issue intelligent alerts for aquaculture management.
