MACSIMAR: Incorporating an integrated meteorological and oceanographic monitoring system for Macaronesia into the European Marine/Maritime Research Strategy

The project proposes to incorporate innovation by relying on the business sector in the development of the devices (models, platforms and sensors), contributing to promote the European Marine and Maritime Research Strategy, in line with the Galway and Aberdeen priorities. The results and products will be available in real time and on a delayed basis, providing a better organisation with the science-business system, in specific fields such as security, maritime-port management, transport, fisheries, tourism, resource protection and coastal zones. Its main objectives are:

  • Enhancement of R&D&I capabilities in the fields of climatology, meteorology and operational oceanography, through the components of modelling, monitoring and dissemination of information in a timely manner, and at a scale appropriate to the sectors on which they depend.
  • Networking, thus participating, from the privileged position in the Atlantic, in the EU’s efforts to create a European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODNet). These aims will be achieved by consolidating and developing existing arrangements and capabilities.
