GRRIP: Grounding RRI practices in research performing organisations

GRRIP will implement sustainable responsible research and innovation (RRI) practices in 4 research organisations (ROs) and 1 organisation combining research and research funding (RO/RFI) (total 5 ROs/RROs) in the marine and maritime (M&M) sectors through action plans (APs) for institutional and cultural change. In addition, a platform for engagement with the quadruple helix (CH) will be established for each OI&OFI, and a platform for mutual learning between the 5 OI&OFIs and the CHs. The M&M sectors are a priority for the EU.
However, they are seriously exposed to the non-alignment of RRI between research and innovation (R&I), stakeholders and the environment, affecting their performance and competitiveness. Objective 1: co-develop, implement and evaluate self-adapting IIR action plans to enable sustainable institutional and cultural change for the 5 IO&OFIs to implement IIR in their governance frameworks, structures and cultures. Action plans will be based on a detailed audit of the current IIR maturity level of the IO&OFI and the identified barriers. The dimensions of RRI will be incorporated into R&I. Objective 2: Establish structures that facilitate, promote and maximise real sustainable engagement with CH (industry, societal actors, policy and other OI&OFI). Objective 3: establish indicators and methodology for impartial Monitoring, Observation and Evaluation cycles, to ensure the provision of evidence of social, democratic, economic and scientific impacts of institutional changes. Objective 4: to develop a sustainable mutual learning process through OI&OFI M&M both during the institutional and cultural change project and afterwards. Objective 5: Legacy: to enable more OI&OFI M&Ms to integrate IIR practices through institutional and cultural changes by a) the development of practical and user-friendly guidelines and templates for the framework of IIR action plans, and b) the launch of an M&M IIR community. Objective 6: to examine how an OFI can positively influence and stimulate an IO towards RRI through its funding policy and interaction.
