EDUROVS-GC 2025: Underwater robotics in educational centres in Gran Canaria

EDUROVs promotes science education for teachers and students through a participatory approach to science, technology, and teamwork. By designing, building, and using underwater vehicles (ROVs), it drives innovation, hands-on learning, and stronger links between science and society, aiming to enhance scientific culture and technological education in the community.

EDUROVs aims to encourage and support science education for both teachers and schoolchildren, promoting an innovative and participatory approach to science, technology and teamwork. We believe that this initiative will have a great social impact by bridging the gap between science, technology and society.

The project covers all aspects and values needed to be competitive and innovative in science and technology. In a dynamic and constructive way (plans: where do we start and end?) and respecting the environment (does it produce pollution and noise?), training is offered (teacher training, didactic contents for students), innovation is stimulated (what tasks will the ROV perform and how?), development is experimented with (how do we build it to perform its tasks?) and a demonstration is offered (how do we make it work in wáter and perform its tasks in an optimal way?). In addition, knowledge of R&D&I financed in Spain with national and international public funds is shared through exhibitions during the workshops.

We hope that this motivation developed in teachers and students will translate into greater participation (advice, support) and awareness (teacher recognition and future prospects) on the part of their families and other teachers, which in turn will be extended to the general population, usually distanced from the R&D&I system. With this, we seek to improve social communication in order to increase the scientific and innovation culture of citizens, fostering the approach to science, technology and innovation, and improving the scientific-technical education of society.
