DATA FOR THE BLUE ECONOMY: Updating, Automating and Evolving Data Management for the Exploitation of Island Marine Resources

The project for the updating, automation and evolution of data management and access for the exploitation of island marine resources (Data for the Blue Economy) aims, on the one hand, to facilitate and strengthen the capabilities for acquiring, ingesting, processing, screening and visualising data related both to ocean observation and to the impacts of blue economy sector activities on the marine environment.

On the other hand, it seeks to contribute to the objectives of the Public Administration Digitalisation Plan and the Spain Digital Agenda 2026 by serving as a facilitating tool for online interaction and communication with interested users, the automation of processes for faster and more efficient management of procedures and records, as well as improved access to and openness of data of public interest.

To achieve these goals, the project focuses on accomplishing the following milestones:

• Conducting a comprehensive inventory of the organisation’s data assets, identifying data sources, types, and locations.
• Designing and implementing a scalable and flexible data architecture that enables data integration, security, and accessibility.
• Implementing a data quality management programme that addresses data cleansing, standardisation and validation to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
• Designing and implementing a digital and interoperable electronic headquarters to allow stakeholders intelligent access to data, obtain detailed information about procedures, submit applications online, and track the status of their requests.
• Creating a specialised employment pool in areas related to data exploitation for the Blue Economy on the island of Gran Canaria.
