BMAA2030: Bluemission Atlantic & Arctic 2030

The BlueMission Atlantic and Arctic 2030 (BMAA2030) project advances the Mission Ocean & Waters through an Atlantic-Arctic Lighthouse. It establishes participatory governance, integrates national hubs, mobilises financing, supports replication and scaling of innovative solutions, develops a shared monitoring and impact framework, and strengthens leadership and citizen engagement across the Atlantic-Arctic region.

The BlueMission Atlantic and Arctic 2030 (BMAA2030) project will be integral to driving significant change in an incredibly important time, to ensure we can protect and restore marine and freshwater ecosystems, prevent pollution, and create a carbon-neutral, circular blue economy, thereby helping to achieve the targets set in the Mission Ocean & Waters. We propose an Atlantic-Arctic Lighthouse, building on the preceding BlueMissionAA (Phase 1) project. The Atlantic-Arctic region comprises a coastline that stretches several thousand kilometres from the Arctic to southern Portugal, and this natural area encompasses three climate zones and important ecosystems and communities, with unique challenges. Our consortium comprises of partners from across the Atlantic and Artic basin (Portugal, Spain, France, Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Germany, and UK) with considerable experience in relevant research and innovation projects, and coordination and support actions.

The proposed BMAA2030 Coordination and Support Action will establish a coherent, participatory governance model for clear and accountable decisions in the Atlantic and Artic basin; integrate national Mission Hubs and Mission Champions into national management and decision-making frameworks; drive systematic change through establishing an attractive financial ecosystem for Mission Ocean and Waters activities; provide an accessible portfolio of support measures to ensuring the replication and upscale of innovative solutions addressing the Mission Ocean & Waters objectives in the Atlantic and Artic; establish a coherent Atlantic–Arctic monitoring, synthesis and impact-tracking framework; establish a leadership framework; and raise awareness of the Mission Ocean and Waters, expanding the Mission community, and mobilising a broad coalition of citizens and stakeholders from across the Atlantic-Arctic Lighthouse regions.
