BLUEMISSIONAA: Building a Coordination Hub to Support the Mission Implementation in the Atlantic and Arctic Basin

BlueMissionAA is the coordination hub supporting the EU Mission "Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030" in the Atlantic and Arctic basins. Focusing on marine and coastal ecosystem restoration and climate resilience, it will develop governance, monitoring frameworks, and support services, foster an innovation ecosystem, and empower EU citizens to actively engage in ocean and water preservation.

BlueMissionAA is the coordination hub that will support the implementation of the EU Mission Restoring our Oceans and Waters by 2030 in the Atlantic and Arctic basins.

Its objective is to restore marine and coastal ecosystems and increase their climate resilience. To this end, BlueMissionAA will mobilise a broad community of stakeholders and EU citizens who will contribute to the success of the Mission at the basin level.

The specific objectives of BlueMissionAA are organised into work packages that seek to:

  • Provide an effective governance framework aligned with policies, initiatives and actions at national, regional and EU level.
  • Create a well-coordinated monitoring framework to continuously assess the progress of implementation.
  • Provide a comprehensive catalogue of support services.
  • Promote an attractive innovation ecosystem for ecological restoration.
  • Empower EU citizens to participate in the preservation and restoration of oceans and waters through participatory means.

In addition, six case studies will be selected to illustrate different approaches to restoration (e.g., protection, active restoration, sustainable harvesting) based on existing and proven methodologies from recent and ongoing projects and networks.
