BIC – LA PALMA: Feasibility study for a blue economy research and innovation centre on the island of La Palma

The project assesses the feasibility of the Blue Economy Research and Innovation Center on La Palma (BIC-LA PALMA) through a comprehensive plan. It includes identifying key stakeholders, developing a sustainable business model, defining services and strategies, and creating a detailed roadmap. It also explores replicability in similar contexts, fostering blue economy development.

The main objective is to analyse the viability of the Blue Economy Research and Innovation Centre on the island of La Palma (BIC-LA PALMA), through the preparation of a comprehensive viability plan. This project will include:

  1. Identifying and analysing in depth the potential agents interested in the project, at local, regional, national and international level.
  2. Develop a solid, sustainable business model, adapted to the current and future circumstances of the island, which guarantees the economic viability and long-term sustainability of the centre.
  3. To define the portfolio of services and functions of the BIC-LA PALMA, as well as its differential value proposal and its positioning strategy in the market.
  4. Establish a roadmap for the implementation of the project, with a detailed chronogram of the phases and actions necessary for the start-up and development of the centre.

All of this will be included in the resulting viability plan, which will lay the foundations for the successful implementation of the BIC-LA PALMA, identifying funding opportunities, strategic collaborations and the necessary actions to ensure its long-term sustainability. Furthermore, the possible replicability and transferability of the model to other islands or regions with similar characteristics will be analysed, thus contributing to the development of the blue economy at a national and international level. In this sense, the particularities of the island context and its expected evolution in the coming years will be taken into account, considering the challenges and opportunities that arise in the framework of the economic and social recovery after the volcanic eruption.
