The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands took part in the 2nd STEAM Conference held at the Teachers’ Centre in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria under the title “With the Future Present”. During the event, PLOCAN presented the educational initiatives it is developing at different educational levels to the island’s teaching staff.
At its interactive stand, PLOCAN exhibited three important educational projects: PRIMROV, EDUROVs and the Green Hydrogen Generation project. PRIMROV focuses on robotics in primary school, with robotic boats designed for primary school students. This programme encourages hands-on learning and promotes the development of STEAM skills in the youngest students.
EDUROVs is an underwater robotics project aimed at secondary school students. Participants have the opportunity to build and programme underwater robots and learn about ocean exploration tools. This initiative aims to awaken interest in marine science and technology.
In addition, PLOCAN presented the educational activity Green Hydrogen Generation (Environmental GLOBE). This innovative project focuses on the production of green hydrogen, a clean and sustainable energy source. This activity is funded by the Renewable Energy and Hydrogen project, a project subsidised by the Government of the Canary Islands and financed under component 17 of the Spanish Government’s recovery, transformation, and resilience plan, financed with “Next Generation Eu” funds, through the so-called recovery and resilience mechanism (MRR).
PRIMROV, EDUROVs and GLOBE are developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands and are financially supported by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria through the Department of Environment, Climate, Energy and Knowledge. These partnerships demonstrate PLOCAN’s commitment to quality education and the promotion of STEAM disciplines in the region.
With these educational initiatives, PLOCAN continues to contribute to the development of skills in students and to promote knowledge in key areas for the future.
