PLOCAN promotes ocean education in the Canary Islands and takes part in ‘De Palique’ at the 2026 Mini Science and Innovation Fairs.

The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) is strengthening its commitment to ocean education and ocean literacy across the archipelago, fostering stronger connections between science, education, and society. In this context, PLOCAN acts as the coordinator of the Canary Islands Blue Schools Network, helping to integrate ocean knowledge into the education system.

Through the Edusen and Edublue projects, funded by the Department of Education and Youth of the Gran Canaria Island Council, the organization has brought ocean science closer to more than 500 students on the island through hands-on experiences based on technology use and applied learning. Students work with ocean sensors, analyze real data, and engage with the scientific method, developing key skills and a deeper awareness of marine sustainability.

This educational work also extends to outreach spaces such as ‘De Palique’, held on Calle Mayor de Triana (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) as part of the 2026 Mini Science and Innovation Fairs, promoted by the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI). This event connects the educational community with the public, encouraging youth participation and science communication in open, accessible spaces.

During the event, young participants share their experiences and reflections on sustainability and the future of the ocean through interactive activities, helping bring science closer to society.

Through these initiatives, PLOCAN reinforces its role as a strategic agent in promoting ocean culture in the Canary Islands, fostering a more informed, engaged, and environmentally responsible society committed to protecting the marine environment.
