PLOCAN participates in the All-Atlantic Forum 2024 presenting the BlueMissionAA project

The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) has actively participated in the 2024 All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance (AAORIA) Forum, recently held in Ottawa, Canada. During the event, PLOCAN had the opportunity to present the BlueMissionAA project, a key initiative within the framework of the EU Mission “Restore our oceans and waters by 2030”.

The BlueMissionAA project, in which PLOCAN plays a fundamental role in the conservation of aquatic ecosystems, was selected to be part of the showcase of outstanding projects in the Atlantic basin. This presentation allowed PLOCAN to highlight its work in developing a robust innovation ecosystem to improve the implementation of ocean-related Missions in the Atlantic and Arctic basin.

During the forum, special emphasis was placed on the WaveLinks tool, an innovative platform developed within the framework of BlueMissionAA. This tool is designed to strengthen connections between the various people involved and the different projects that currently deal with marine and coastal restoration, facilitating collaboration between researchers, industry, and communities.

Additionally, PLOCAN is part of the consortium of the OKEANO project, a three-year project funded by Horizon Europe Funds that aims to provide the necessary support for the All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance (AAORIA) to continue and strengthen, and in particular for the aforementioned Forum to continue to be held. Taking advantage of the presence of several representatives of the partner entities at this meeting, a follow-up meeting of the OKEANO project was held, allowing for a valuable exchange of information and updates on its progress.

Participation in this international event has highlighted the importance of cooperation between AAORIA and the European Union’s Ocean Mission projects, emphasizing the role of the Atlantic as a nexus for future collaborations. The synergy between BlueMissionAA and OKEANO reinforces PLOCAN’s commitment to ocean research and sustainable innovation at the transatlantic level.

PLOCAN thus continues to strengthen its role in ocean research and sustainable innovation, actively contributing to the objectives of restoring and protecting our oceans at a global level, and consolidating its position as a key player in Atlantic cooperation initiatives.
