PLOCAN participates in the “African Women in Science” seminar organized by Mujeres por África

The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) was present today at the “African Women in Science” seminar, organized by the Mujeres por África Foundation (MxA), as part of the celebrations marking the tenth anniversary of the “Ellas Investigan” (Science By Women) program.

PLOCAN scientist María Díaz and Tunisian mathematician Sywar Belkahla, who is currently undertaking a scientific stay at PLOCAN funded by the MxA program, took part in the event held at Casa África.

The main event of the commemoration was the round table “Scientific cooperation as a fundamental element for progress in any field,” in which Díaz and Belkahla—who collaborate at PLOCAN—shared their experiences, highlighting the importance of international scientific cooperation in addressing major global challenges.

The day also brought together representatives from the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, along with another African scientist currently benefiting from the program in Gran Canaria.

The “Ellas Investigan” (Science By Women) program of the Mujeres por África Foundation promotes the leadership of African women in scientific research and technology transfer in key areas such as health, agriculture, food security, water, energy, and climate change. This seminar provided an opportunity to reflect on the multiplying impact of science when developed collaboratively and transnationally.

Through its participation, PLOCAN reinforces its commitment to gender equality in science and international collaboration, especially with the African continent, promoting female talent and excellence in research.
