The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) today hosted a presentation event for the PORTS 4.0 program, an initiative by Puertos del Estado and Port Authorities aimed at fostering innovation in the Spanish port ecosystem.
During the event, which was attended by various sector representatives, the opportunities offered by PORTS 4.0 to finance disruptive ideas and technological projects seeking to transform port logistics, sustainability, and competitiveness were presented. Attendees were able to learn first-hand about the program’s guidelines, priority thematic areas, and available funding options.
Furthermore, PLOCAN’s role as a scientific and technical infrastructure with great potential for R&D in key sectors such as marine renewable energies, marine environment observation, and offshore aquaculture was also highlighted.
Representatives from the Canary Islands Digital Innovation Hub (CIDIHUB) explained the role of this consortium in strengthening the Canarian economy through digitalization and how PORTS 4.0 seeks to align the port sector with current challenges in sustainability, logistical efficiency, and energy transition.
This event reaffirms PLOCAN’s commitment to innovation and sustainable development in the maritime-port sector, as well as to the promotion of the Blue Economy and the digital transformation of the industry.
