PLOCAN contributes to Ocean Sciences Meeting 2024

The Ocean Sciences Meeting (OSM), sponsored by the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the Association for Sciences, Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) and the Oceanographic Society (TOS), represents the international leading forum for scientists, engineers and ocean users where to promote, disseminate and exchange knowledge, ideas, applications and the most relevant and cutting-edge developments from the current multidisciplinary and broad set of ocean sciences and technologies.

This biannual event has held its current edition OSM24 in the city of New Orleans (LA, USA) between February 19th and 23rd, 2024, and had the participation record of seven thousand attendees representing institutions related to research in ocean sciences and technologies worldwide, together with more than a hundred leading companies and organizations of the sector. The event provided a large and multidisciplinary program of parallel oral sessions and tutorials, together with a huge poster display forum and an exhibition hall specifically dedicated to companies to display their latest technological innovations in the ocean-observing sector.

PLOCAN has contributed to OSM24 as organizing member of the scientific session AI53A – Observing Air-Sea Interactions Using Autonomous Technologies: Advancements, Challenges, and Implications for a Practical and Integrated Observing System as well as with several scientific-technical works related to currently ongoing projects and programs in the framework of ocean observing, among which stands the coordinated European strategy for gliders and USV platforms aimed by the EU’s GROOM-IIwhich includes specific actions such as the implementation and consolidation of new observation networks as research infrastructure (RI), as well as the highly qualified training associated to them through initiatives such as Glider School that is still promoted and coordinated by PLOCAN for more than a decade.
