Macaronight 2023 at the European Researchers’ Night

The “European Researchers’ Night” hosted the celebration of Macaronight 2023, whose main objective is to bring science and technology closer to citizens, especially the younger public, in order to raise awareness of the work of researchers in the Macaronesia region and its impact on everyday life.

The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) participated in Macaronight 2023 on the occasion of the session held at the Paraninfo of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in an event in which the mission of the Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructure and the importance of its test site to promote research in the field of marine sciences and technologies were disseminated.

This talk is part of the EDUROVs “Educational Underwater Robotics” project, which aims to build robots from low-cost materials, with free software and hardware, in order to bring students closer to science and technology in a practical way and stimulate professional vocations in the field of technology. The project is funded by PLOCAN and the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, and also has the collaboration of the Area for the Promotion of Scientific Vocations and Creativity (STEAM) of the Directorate General for Organisation, Innovation and Quality of the CEUCD of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Ministry of Science and Innovation.

Since 2018, Macaronight has been held simultaneously in the provinces of Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, as well as on the islands of the Azores and Madeira. The Las Palmas edition is organised by the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which manages the Fundación Canaria Parque Científico de la ULPGC, with La Palma Research Centre as the project coordinator.
