The Canary Islands Ocean Platform (PLOCAN), together with a Canary Islands delegation made up of representatives from Proexca, the Canary Islands Maritime Cluster (CMC), the Canary Islands Federation of Port Companies (FEDEPORT), the Port Authorities of Las Palmas and Tenerife, and leading Canary Islands companies from the marine-maritime sector, visited Port La Nouvelle this week, in southern France, where the Hyd’Occ and EOLMED projects are currently being developed, to learn more about these initiatives.
This event was organized by Proexca, together with the Canary Islands Maritime Cluster and FEDEPORT, at the invitation of QAIR, a French energy company participating in both projects. Participants were able to tour the facilities of the Hyd’Occ project for the production of renewable hydrogen from renewable sources, which will begin its first operational tests at the end of 2025. They also visited the facilities of the EOLMED project, which aims to install three 10 MW floating wind platforms, located approximately 15 km off the coast and incorporating an innovative floating electrical connection system.
In relation to the H2VERDE project, this technical visit provided firsthand insight into a large-scale renewable hydrogen production facility, as well as the various solutions adopted in energy management and the diverse uses and end applications of the hydrogen produced, contributing to the decarbonization of land transport. This activity provided a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by these projects and the solutions adopted, with the aim of replicating them in future projects developed at the PLOCAN Test Site.
