The CEO of PLOCAN, José Joaquín Hernández Brito, presented the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands during the conference ‘PLOCAN, ICTS to accelerate technologies, business models and regulation in emerging sectors of the Blue Economy’ to the technical staff of the Centre for Studies and Experimentation of Public Works (CEDEX). The objective of the conference was to present the ICTS, its projects, initiatives and actions, given its relationship with the activities of measurements in nature and experimentation on marine renewable energies developed by CEDEX.
During the event, the CEO of PLOCAN referred to the Unique Scientific and Technical Infrastructure (ICTS) as a place which addresses the challenges for restoring the health of our oceans through a new relationship with the environment based on effective protection and sustainable use, in line with the goals of the decade of the oceans and the sustainable development goals of the UN 2030.
During the conference, Hernández Brito also highlighted the role of PLOCAN in promoting marine science and technology excellence to develop and validate new models in order to mitigate climate change, based on the energy transition and the conservation of the marine environmental quality. Moreover, the CEO of PLOCAN underlined the need for a clear regulatory framework for the development of projects and initiatives within the sector.
CEDEX is a public entity applied to civil engineering, building and the environment. It is organically attached to the Ministry of Development and functionally to the Ministries of Development and Agriculture, Food and Environment. The Agency provides multidisciplinary support in civil engineering, building and environmental technologies, and assists both public administrations and institutions and private companies.
