The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) took part in the monitoring meeting of the A3MAtlantic project, held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with the participation of the initiative’s partners. The meeting was held as part of the 1st European Ocean Pact Congress in the Canary Islands, in which A3MAtlantic took part as a collaborating project.
The Congress, promoted by the Deputy Ministry of Economy and Internationalisation of the Government of the Canary Islands under the Canary Islands Blue Economy Strategy 2030, aimed to bring the principles and priorities of the European Ocean Pact to the reality of the Archipelago and to foster collaboration among stakeholders linked to the blue economy, sustainability, innovation and ocean protection.
During the A3MAtlantic meeting, progress was reviewed on the project’s coordination, financial management and general communication, as well as the implementation status of its various activities, presented by the entities responsible for each one.
PLOCAN presented progress on the actions it is carrying out within the project, focused on supporting innovation, competitiveness and diversification among SMEs linked to the blue economy. This work forms part of A3MAtlantic’s specific objective to strengthen small and medium-sized enterprises through joint innovation solutions and support from quadruple helix stakeholders, jointly coordinated by PLOCAN and CETECIMA.
The actions driven by PLOCAN include technology watch and competitive intelligence tools, support for the design and development of innovation projects, knowledge transfer, identification of new sectors and market opportunities, open innovation, and the identification of training needs. The aim is to provide companies with the information, capabilities and services they need to innovate, diversify their activity and seize new opportunities linked to the blue economy in the cooperation area.
A3MAtlantic brings together partners from the Canary Islands, Madeira, the Azores and African countries within the cooperation area, under the coordination of the Canary Islands Maritime Cluster, with the aim of strengthening the competitiveness, innovation and internationalisation of SMEs linked to the blue economy.
PLOCAN’s participation in A3MAtlantic helps put its scientific and technological capabilities at the service of the business community, fostering knowledge transfer, innovation and the identification of new business opportunities linked to the blue economy in the Mid-Atlantic cooperation area.
The A3MAtlantic project (“Strengthening the Sustainable Growth and Competitiveness of SMEs Making Up the Productive Fabric of the Blue Economy Sectors in the Mid-Atlantic”, file reference no. 1/MAC/1/1.3/0051) is co-financed at 85 per cent by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the INTERREG VI-D Madeira-Azores-Canary Islands (MAC) 2021-2027 Programme, under its 1st call for proposals (Priority 1, Specific Objective 1.3).
