ENVRIPLUS: Environmental Research Infrastructures Providing Shared Solutions for Science and Society

ENVRIPLUS is a cluster of research infrastructures (RIs) for environmental sciences and the earth system, built around the ESFRI roadmap and associating leading e-infrastructures and integration activities together with specialist technical partners.

ENVRIPLUS is governed by 3 general objectives:

  • Encourage the exchange of ideas between infrastructures.
  • Apply innovative concepts and devices among IRs.
  • Facilitating research and innovation in the field of environment to a growing number of users outside the RIs.

ENVRIPLUS organises its activities along a main strategic plan in which multidisciplinary knowledge sharing will be most effective. It aims to improve earth observation strategies and systems, including actions for harmonisation and innovation, generate common solutions to many shared challenges related to information technologies and data, harmonise access policies and provide strategies for knowledge transfer between IRs.

ENVRIPLUS develops guidelines to improve the interdisciplinary use of data and data products supported by use cases applied with IRs from different domains.

ENVRIPLUS coordinates actions to improve communication and cooperation, addressing environmental IRs at all levels, from management to end-users, implementing IR staff exchange programmes, generating material for IR staff and proposing common strategic developments and actions to improve services to users and assessing socio-economic impacts.

ENVRIPLUS is expected to facilitate the structuring and improve the quality of services offered within individual IRs and at the pan-IR level. It also promotes efficient and multidisciplinary research, offering new opportunities for users, new tools for IR managers and new communication strategies for environmental IR communities. The solutions, services and other results produced in the project will be made available to all environmental RI initiatives, thus contributing to the development of a consistent European RI ecosystem.
