ENTROPI: Enabling Technologies and Roadmaps for Offshore Platform Innovation

The ENTROPI project focuses on investments to address critical challenges along the value chain to support multi-purpose platforms. These platforms have already been identified as a key enabling technology (KET) and three FP7 projects (TROPOS, H2OCEAN and MERMAID) have explored preliminary platform concepts and their feasibility.

The potential to build and operate the platforms will enable the expansion of aquaculture and renewable energy capacity, to address two important blue growth priorities, and will also bring concrete progression of the energy union. It can also become a platform for the development of offshore infrastructure for seabed mining and maritime security, two other blue growth sectors ENTROPI will achieve this through the following steps:

  • Identify and develop an investment plan for critical capabilities along the value chain that enable multi-purpose platforms;
  • Enhancing SME participation in this value chain innovation;
  • Focus the potential for initial deployment on the Atlantic basin which has strong industries in sectors that could benefit from multi-purpose facilities;
  • Align the investment plan with regional and national investment priorities and specialisation themes (RIS3) and funding resources.
